July 10, 2008 Thursday

Thursdays are odd days. They're Almost-Fridays, lacking in the anticipation of a pending weekend, but still offering the week's end on the horizon. But if you dwell on it too much, Thursday becomes a letdown. It is, after all, just another workday, and when it's over, you still have another workday to face the next day.

You have to let the Almost-Fridayness keep to itself in the background, just sort of knowing that something to anticipate is on the horizon without giving it too much conscious thought.

If you tend to be a positive thinker, Thursdays can also be Not-Wednesdays, a celebration of getting past mid-week (but again, not to be dwelt on, just enjoyed).

They're also Not-Tuesdays. Tuesdays are a weird day. They're the opposite of Thursdays. They're Nearly-Mondays. They possess the aura of a Monday, keeping you aware that the meat of the workweek is still in front of you.

So enjoy your Almost-Friday and keep a happy thought.

Of course to folks like me, on call 24/7, it doesn't make whole lotta difference.
