After some heavy-duty weeks at work coupled with Christmas preparations, I joined my sister's family for an escape to New York to see a Broadway play.

This has turned into an annual tradition - sister, brother-in-law, two nieces and a nephew - and me - take the train to New York between the holidays. This year we saw Hairspray - a strange but fun play. The kids loved it.

We also have a favorite restaurant now - Carmine's on 44th Street, near the theater district. They serve everything family style on huge plates.

But the holiday preparations are not quite complete. Tomorrow we're having a get-together with friends for a final gift-exchange for the season. We're all going out to dinner then coming back to our house for dessert and gifts.

And Sunday is dinner out with my co-workers; it's been a great holiday season.

Oh, yeah, Monday is New Year's Eve, when we'll be doing nothing.
