While trying to ease a non-running 2500-lb. (1100 kg) car manually down a sloping driveway, I manage to tear a calf muscle. I also chose to ignore the injury for several days until the swelling and bruising became way too prominent.

So I visited my regular doc who recommended heat, some prescription pain killers, an ultra sound, and a referral to an orthopedist.

The orthopedist strapped me into The Boot, a device of medieval description, that totally immobilized my leg from the knee down. It was like walking around with my foot stuck in a bucket. But at least I could walk.

He also scheduled me for an MRI. I drove there (although I wasn't supposed to drive) only to discover that the magic machine had just gone down (help had been summoned). I was supposed to have the MRI results for the orthopedist the next day, so they rescheduled me for 10pm. That's at night.

The Wife was able to drive me, and after a half-hour inside a very noisy machine (I was given earplugs), we headed home with the films, in time for my appointment the next morning.

The doc says wear the boot for another two weeks and I should be okay. This is an adventure I coulda done without.
