We have a second floor deck facing the backyard. Beneath the deck is a 20-year-old storage shed that suffered from a leaky roof and a rotted floor. I replaced the roof and the floor, but the interior walls were also in bad shape. So I emptied the shed and piled everything under the deck.

This month (with no work due in for weeks) I decided it would be a good time to finish the project. So I headed out back to survey the task at hand.

And there, in the eaves over the shed door, was a Robin sitting on a nest, giving me a very wary and nervous eye. We both stared at each other briefly, then I quietly made my way back into the house.

There's no way I could do sawing, hammering and other construction trauma without creating stress toward the cycle of life taking place over the door.

Shed Renovation Month has been officially postponed for now.
