The Opie Project is currently in Phase III, which chronicles the upbringing of Opie's two roommates, Hunky and Dorie, littermates who arrived on the premises at the age of fourteen weeks.

Cat notes Updated 5/11/08. Hunky: .Humans will celebrate anything. And do. Dorie: ..This is how humans justify their otherwise dull day-to-day existence, unlike cats, who celebrate every day. Hunky: But we have to agree that they're onto something today - celebrating mothers. Dorie: ..Mothers all over the world have a common bond, whether they are human or one of the 45,000 other species. Hunky: .They all have an inborn imperative to bring their young to adulthood, to protect them until they can fend for themselves, and it's their nature that we celebrate today. Dorie: ..Of course, humans take a lot longer accomplishing this goal than, say, insects. Hunky: We really don't remember our earliest upbringing; we just know we found ourselves here, with a couple humans for entertainment and surrogate mothering. Hunky: And for that we are appreciative. Dorie: ..Happy Mother's Day! Wife Notes Updated 5/9/08. I have a seventeen-year-old convertible that is still in pretty good shape. It's not my primary vehicle, except on really nice days (e.g., the first three days of this week). At this time of year I keep it in the garage with the top down, ready to go into action at the appropriate weather conditions. But today was a bit overcast, and I left it garaged. After three days of top-down driving, I missed it. And it looks like I'll be missing it for a while - we're supposed to get drenching rain all day today. ..................................................................................... Husband Notes Updated 5/7/08. We have a second floor deck facing the backyard. Beneath the deck is a 20-year-old storage shed that suffered from a leaky roof and a rotted floor. I replaced the roof and the floor, but the interior walls were also in bad shape. So I emptied the shed and piled everything under the deck. This month (with no work due in for weeks) I decided it would be a good time to finish the project. So I headed out back to survey the task at hand. And there, in the eaves over the shed door, was a Robin sitting on a nest, giving me a very wary and nervous eye. We both stared at each other briefly, then I quietly made my way back into the house. ......................................................................................
