Return of the Chipmunk.

The Husband was reading the paper one evening when he caught movement in the dining room. He looked up at the curtain rod over the sliding glass door, but didn't see anything right away. Then he noticed a chipmunk just sitting there. He eased his way over and slid open the door. The chipmunk ran down the back of the curtain; the Husband could see his reflection in the glass. He slowly pulled the curtain in front of the open door. The rodent took the hint and jumped across the deck and leapt into a tree.

Two days later the Husband is at the computer and a chipmunk runs into the room and behind a bookcase. Opie follows as if to ask "Did you see a chipmunk come through here?" The Husband moved the bookcase and the chipmunk dashed back into the living room. The Husband went out to find Opie peering under the love seat. He opened the sliding glass door and no sooner was it opened than the chipmunk was hauling ass out onto the deck and leapt into the tree. I wonder if that was the same chipmunk, mused the Husband.

Three days later the Husband came home from work to find Opie in the dining room, peering intently at the sliding glass door. There was a chipmunk, pawing at the glass door. The Husband gingerly opened same and, you know, across the deck, into the tree. He didn't return.
