Hunky: . There's two different kinds of floor in this house.

Dorie:  Yeah, hard floors and soft floors. Most of the house has soft floors, kinda like the scratching posts. It's very handy in a pinch, but it's not vertical, so it's not very helpful for scratching. The long hallway is all soft, and we like chasing each other up and down it, and making sharp turns into the various rooms.

Hunky: .What we don't understand are the hard floors. They're in the kitchen and bathrooms and laundry room, and they're no fun. And they don't seem to be serving much purpose.

Dorie:  The ever-cautious feline must be able to dig in for a quick getaway when necessary, and that isn't possible on those floors. We just spin our paws.

Hunky:   And if we wanna jump up on the bathroom sink, it's an iffy take-off from the hard floor. And kinda embarassing when all my feet don't end up in the same place.

Dorie:   But, like all successful living species, we adapt to our environment. And since we mostly travel around the house on the furniture and tables, we don't spend that much time on the floor anyway.
