The transition to the Dorie Project is going well.Okay, it'll still be the Opie Project, but it'll be me calling the shots.
I've been very active this past week. Enough to get the Husband's attention, anyway. That was Step One. Step Two was finding a mouse - normally a tricky proposition, but there was one in the kitchen. Don't know how it got there, don't care. My job was to flush it out, which I did with gusto. I made sure the Husband was aware that the flash of fur darting from the kitchen to the front door was me at work, in hot pursuit of vermin.
The mouse had taken shelter under the gumball machine by the front door, and I was poised next to it, gazing fixedly upon it.
The Husband chased me away (I allowed him that so he could participate), then opened the front door. He followed that with the simple act of lifting the gumball machine, thereby depriving the mouse of his secure spot.
Fortunately, this mouse was no dummy (most are) - he spied the open front door and made the most of it, disappearing down the stairs and into the bushes.
I understand this was pretty much the way Opie did things - chasing but not catching, and leaving that privilege to the Husband. Which doesn't make much sense to me - goes against my instincts. But if the Husband's happy, then I am too.
Meanwhile, I've earned a place in the Opielog.![]()
Now I hafta introduce the Husband to Skittles - he's the cat next door who comes up on the deck to visit every morning. We sit on opposite sides of the glass door for long periods, just getting to know each other. That'll be the next Dorie Project for the Opie Project ...
