There were various activities available today, from whitewater rafting to horseback riding to helicopter flightseeing. We opted for lying in bed watching the Breakfast Club on HBO. We were back on the train at noon. We met some nice folks from Indiana yesterday, and due to assigned seating, joined up with them again today. It was eight hours on the train today as we worked our way south through some of the most gorgeous landscapes yet encountered. We passed through a couple small villages, but didn't stop, and by today we'd become acquainted with our travel mates (most of whom will be on the ship). The husband felt well enough for dinner on the train, and felt much better with a full stomach. We finally saw the moose that eluded us yesterday in Denali Park. We saw three today, including a calf (it's that time of year), plus some black bears and a porcupine. We also crossed the very narrow 300-foot high Hurricane Gulch bridge. Mt. McKinley stayed hidden in the clouds that always surround it. We have yet to get a decent "peak" at it :) We were in Anchorage and off the train by 9 pm and to the hotel and unpacked by 10 pm. Tomorrow: Kenai Peninsula and Seward, before
boarding the ship. |
