This morning was our last on the ship. Canadian customs only allows a few people off at a time, so we were divided into groups (according to our next destination) and allowed to disembark when our group was called. We tried to connect with the folks we'd met on the trip, but failed completely, since they were all leaving for different destinations (some for the airport, some for the bus to Seattle, while we were destined for a Vancouver hotel). We had breakfast, then found our way to a lounge and awaited our group's departure. We would like to have waited in our room, but we had to be out by 8:30. Since our destination was local, and all others required connections to other points, we were the last group to leave the ship (two hours after the first group). We were bussed around Vancouver for two hours on a sightseeing tour (it was nice, but we just wanted a hotel room). But it is a nice city. It has a great park (Stanley Park, named for Lord Stanley, of hockey cup fame) that wraps all around the harbor and makes Vancouver look good from incoming ships. Our hotel is right on the edge of the park, and walking the park would be a fun thing to do if it wasn't pouring rain (this is more typical of our vacations)! The hotel is very classy (moreso than we're used to), although it is in the landing path of float planes (just adds character). We arrived at our room around 2:30, along with most of our luggage. One bag was missing, but it included prescription medications and most of the souvenirs. As of this writing, it has not shown up. We're waiting for the rain to stop (it's slowing up a bit now) so we can walk around the park. Our ship is still in port (picture is us, the ship and the city), and we've got a bet as to when it will be sailing again. Results will be posted. The missing luggage has arrived. All is well. We have no plans for tonight. We're gonna relax. Tomorrow is another bus tour (of Victoria, across the harbor, which includes the must-see Butchart Gardens). We're still having fun! |
