Yesterday we attended a matinee performance of "The Music Man" (a nephew was a musician playing out of sight in the orchestra pit). It was a huge cast with fairly eleborate sets (for a high school production), and they pulled it off rather well.

I had seen the movie version when it first came out - I was in high school and my girl friend insisted on seeing it. I expected to be underwhelmed, but I was pleasantly surprised. The story was well-told, the characters were interesting unto themselves, and the fact that they tended to break into song at a moment's notice didn't detract from the tale. I actually enjoyed a musical.

That movie was 47 years ago, but it all came back as I was watching the performance yesterday. I knew who the actors were who had played the roles in the movie that the kids were performing. I even knew some of the lines as they were sung/spoken. I've probably seen the movie since then, but most recently must've been decades ago.

Some things just stick with you.
