The Stamping Room
begun July 16, 2004

Task: convert the Husband's old darkroom (unused for more than five years) to a work area dedicated to the Wife's new craft.

For years it's just been a junk room, but completion of the attic renovation means the junk can now be relocated. It's just a matter of where to begin.

While most of the junk has gone to the attic, an amazing amount has been crammed into the room's 2-foot-wide closet

... revealing the recognizable features of the darkroom of years gone by

Opie performs a detailed study of the transition in progress.

A new work surface was constructed to cover the hole where the darkroom sink was formerly located.

Corkboard was added below the pegboards, and mounting brackets for the shelves were added.

The shelving is an arrangement of adjustable shelves with dowels passing through them that allow for variations in the height of the stamp cases.
Kinda reminds you of the Wright brothers first airplane, doesn't it?

Additional shelving was added ...

which was donated by the Wife's father ...

and a fluorescent light fixture was installed

which brightened the place up considerably (formerly being a darkroom, this place has no windows).

An added touch (also courtesy of the Wife's father) is a space heater. This room is in a far corner of the house with two outside walls and a slab floor, and it can get a bit chilly in the winter months.

Wiring was added for the tv antenna, electrical outlets and a phone jack

and while the Wife disinfected all surfaces ...

the Husband hooked up the phone and tv ...

... and assembled a comfy new work chair.

Then came the big moment - moving in all the stamping gear.
