Summer's coming.

Officially it'll be here in two weeks. The first day of summer also marks the 11th anniversary of the Opie Project. It went online June 21, 1998.

Things were different then; the internet was still a novelty - a community of geeks, and having your own website was a big deal. And "bloggers" hadn't been invented yet.

There were online diaries, and the Opie Project fit that category, chronicling the adventures of Opie and his penchant for catching critters and bringin' 'em back alive to run around the house.

But Opie's been gone for five years now. The Husband's arthritis is hampering his abilitity to chase us around with a camera or to spend hours at the computer. And the Wife maintains a full-time job while running her own home-demonstration business. So I've been left to run the Opie Project and keep the updates coming. But this was a site originally designed around Opie.

So on the first day of summer, it's 11th anniversary, the Opie Project will become an archive dedicated entirely to Opie (and c.c. - they were inseparable), and will include the seven months Opie took Hunky and me under his wing. Included are seven years of notes by the Husband, the Wife and Opie, plus lotsa pictures.

There won't be any more daily updates, but to keep interest, I plan to add a picture of the week of Opie or c.c. (we've got thousands of 'em).

As for me, being a 21st century cat, I now have my own Facebook page, where I'll be adding photos and updates on the Husband, Wife, Hunky and me, though not on any kind of regular basis, but as events occur.

So things will be different, but they will also be the same. Come and explore. The spirit of the Opie Project lives on!
